Important Things to Consider While Installing a VFD Panel

A VFD or Variable Frequency Drive Panel is one of the widely used motor controllers that help to drive an electric motor by varying the voltage supplied to it. If an electric motor of your gadget doesn't need to run at full speed, then you should use this electrical panel. It's because this will help you to meet the voltage level with the actual requirement of an electric motor load. In simple words, as the speed of your motor change, this VFD Panel will simply turn up or down the motor speed as per the requirement.

These are designed to ensure the safe transmission of electricity throughout the industry. You just need to install or wire it properly, so, that it doesn't catch fire or come in contact with any harmful substance. Following are some simple points that you should consider while installing a VFD Panel.

Make sure everything is correctly sized: First of all, you have to check that everything is properly sized. Otherwise, it may cause short-circuits or fire accidents in your workplace. To check the size of your electrical panel, you just need to check the nameplate of your electric motor which helps you to come to know how many amps it requires for its operation. This will help you to choose the right electrical panel as per the requirement.

Select the properly sized breaker: Here at this point, you need to check that your circuit breaker can handle the voltage level, which is a must for its operation. While choosing or selecting the circuit breaker, you have to be careful, and you should use leather gloves, arch fault gear, safety glasses, or any other safety tools.

Run wires from your breaker panel to VFD: After selecting the right breaker, it's time to execute the wire for the full load amps to VFD. For this, always try to use appropriate methods of wiring, otherwise, it may be risky.

Run wires from the VFD to the motor: After running the wire from the breaker to the panel, it's time to move it through the motor. For this, you need to use the same gauge wires, which are used in the previous step. Use proper raceway and land wires in conduit box on a motor to run it properly.

Make up the wires: Once you run the wires to the motor, it's time to join them correctly. For this, you can also take the help of a wiring diagram to make sure that the wires are spliced correctly and tightly.

Terminate your wires to your VFD or circuit breaker as well: At this point, you need to terminate the load wire from the panel or circuit breaker to make sure that it will be properly installed.

Startup: After completing all the above steps it's time to turn the circuit breaker on and enjoy the speed control, which is a must for your motor's better performance.
